I don’t know if this is going to be a permanent series, but I thought I’d start putting out content on a Saturday by doing player ratings. Let’s see how it goes…
Ryan Allsop 7 | Only had a couple of saves to make, but they were fairly solid ones. Commanded his area well and continued to impress with his distribution, posting a passing accuracy of 67%.
Jack Grimmer 6.5 | Had a quieter day in an attacking sense than we’ve come to expect. Stayed out of trouble and won 50% of his duels but was dribbled past twice – unusually high for him, such is how brilliant he’s been.
Anthony Stewart 7| Continues to enjoy a fine season. Didn’t have to make a tackle but got stuck in with two blocked shots, two interceptions and three clearances, and won 3/4 aerial duels.
Darius Charles 7.5 | A goal two weeks ago and now an assist – does the Mango Man want to play up front? Defensively, had less to do than Stewart but looked as imperious as ever and found his man with 73% of his passes – our best bar late sub David Wheeler.
Joe Jacobson 8 | Is it an exaggeration to say that JJ is enjoying his best campaign for us? I don’t think it is. Put his free-kick on the money for the goal but, just as importantly, owned the left wing again, winning 5/6 of his 50/50s on the ground and not being dribbled past once.
Curtis Thompson 7 | Combative as ever and helped dig us out of some tight spots – helped by his drawing a game-high four fouls. Some sloppy passes but nothing which put us in any real danger.
Dom Gape 7 | A standard Gape performance really. Perhaps not as strong in the tackle as normal – potentially still feeling the effects of last weekend – but did what he does. Best on the pitch with his six interceptions.
Matt Bloomfield 6 | Got stuck in as per but won only 4/15 50/50s – and otherwise not hugely involved. Looked like he may have taken (yet another) knock when he came off after 80 minutes. Still a warrior and will obviously have better days.
Scott Kashket 6.5 | Very lively and might have had a goal had he got more shots off – only took the one. Popped up all over the Shrewsbury half and kept them occupied with his movement and dribbling.
Adebayo Akinfenwa 6 | Taken good care of by Aaron Pierre – even if our former favourite did get a bit too ‘hands on’ at times. Not able to be quite as effective as the usual focal point but mustered a couple of half-decent efforts and did some good technical work to benefit others in and around their box.
Rolando Aarons 7 | Largley anonymous in the first half but ultimately produced his best Wycombe performance so far. Took his goal brilliantly after expertly anticipating Charles’ flick-on. Tried to do too much by himself on a couple of occasions, but hard to blame a player of his proven quality.
I’ve got to work out a minimum minutes played by subs for them to receive ratings, so I’ve left them out this week!
